National Sure Start Month

Sure Start is a government initiative designed to give every child the best possible start in life by bringing together all the essential elements; health services, family support, childcare and preschool education. It was decided that June would be designated National Sure Start Month, and that activities would be organised throughout the country to encourage more teachers, parents, carers, local authorities etc to become more aware of the aims of Sure Start and to celebrate the wide range of options available for parents and supporters to help prepare our nation's children for a healthy, happy and successful future. Events, including such entertainments as face painting, clowns, stilt walkers, fancy dress parties, art work competitions etc were organised both on a local and national basis with a wide range of support from government ministers, nursery staff, healthcare professionals, local government employees, parents and providers, amongst others.
